Rules and Regulations

Student Rights

  1. An education in a safe and well- maintained environment.
  2. Respect from one’s peers and teachers
  3. The freedom to express one’s opinion and ideas in a proper, polite, and timely manner.
  4. The freedom to ask for further explanation assuming one is paying full attention in class. 
  5. An explanation for grades received after the class has ended. 
  6. An explanation of discipline administered.
  7. Prior knowledge of school rules.
  8. Access to all school facilities (library, infirmary, laboratories, pool) according to the schedule specified by the school.

Student Obligations

  1. To show respect of the educational rights of one’s peers.
  2. To respect one’s peers, teachers, the administrative staff and all school personnel.
  3. Respect for all school property and facilities. 
  4. To sit for all tests and obligatory sessions assigned by the school.
  5. To abide by all the regulations of the school. 
  6. To bear the consequences of one’s actions. 

Probation

Students may be placed on probation for disciplinary or academic reasons. Parents/ guardians will be notified, in writing, when their child is placed under probation. Each case will be discussed at the end of each academic year, by the relevant committees and parents/ guardians will be alerted of the outcome.

The “Student Conduct Record” and the “Disciplinary Committee’’

The student conduct record traces the student's conduct in school. It states all the warnings the student receives during the course of the year. The disciplinary committee is formed of teachers and members of the administration. The committee meets regularly to assess conduct records of students and on an ad hoc basis in the case of emergency. The committee decides on outcomes ranging from simple punishment to expulsion from the school.

Time Regulations

The parents and students should respect the timetable of the school. 


Parents of students who are absent or late to school are expected to notify the school on the same day office by phone, 01- 834 838/ 840 781, between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m..


All students should arrive at school 5 minutes before the bell rings. Any tardiness will subject the student to an oral warning. Any justification for the delay should be given by the parents personally. Unjustified tardiness will be noted as a day of absence in the school log.


Students who are late for a test or an exam without adequate justification may receive a failing grade for that test.


Similarly, students are not allowed to leave school before specified times. In exceptional circumstances, parents should alert the administration to receive permission before coming to collect the child. No medical appointments are allowed to be taken during school time. 

Absences from School

  1.  Parents are asked to notify the school before 8:30 a.m. of any absence.
  2. Any student who is absent from school must present a written note from his parents before returning to class.
  3. Any student that who skips  a test will receive a failing mark on the test.
  4. The student is responsible for making up work given in class during his/her absence.
  5. Absences of more than 3 days for one term will subject the student to a written warning and class suspension.
  6. Any student with recurrent absences after a written warning will be referred to the disciplinary committee.
  7. Any class that decides to take an agreed upon absence from school will subject the entire the class to a written warning and will be deprivation of one holiday.
  8. Students feeling ill during school hours will be directed to report to the floor supervisor’s office or the receptionist’s office. The receptionist or a member of the office staff will notify parents. A student may not leave school at any time without permission.
  9. Parents planning trips during school time are expected to assume the responsibility for finalizing academic make-up arrangements with the respective teachers prior to the trip.
  10. Students returning from long-term absences are required to present written confirmation of the reason for the absence.
  11. Students returning after a contagious disease must confirm their non-contagious state in an official medical written form.

 

General Rules of Conduct

Students are expected to heed the following regulations, whether on or off campus. Breaking these rules will subject the student to an oral or a written warning, and in some extreme cases, may lead to the immediate expulsion of the student from the school. A sum of three oral warnings will subject the student to a written warning while a total of three written warnings will refer the student to the disciplinary committee.

  1. A student should pay full respect to the administrative and teaching staff. Any disrespect for schoolteachers or administration will subject the student to a written warning or a referral to the disciplinary committee.
  2. The student should respect all school property such as desks, tables, curtains, etc. Any intentional damage should be compensated for and will subject the student to a written warning.
  3. The use of foul language is not allowed in school and will subject the student to an oral warning.
  4. Cursing and physical fights will subject the student to a written warning and/ or expulsion.
  5. Students should stand in line properly when the bell rings.
  6. Unsafe material such as firecrackers, tobacco, matches, lighters, cutters, knives, aerosol colorants are strictly forbidden on the school premises and will subject the student to a written warning
  7. Carrying or using cell phones, video cameras and music players without obtaining prior permission is forbidden in school and any student who does so will have his phone kept at the administration. The device can be picked up at the end of three days by the parents only. In case of recurrence, the device will not be returned until the end of the year.
  8.  Any student caught playing cards will be given an oral warning.
  9. Chewing gum is forbidden.
  10. The student should respect all bus safety rules.
  11. The student should respect any guest visiting the school.
  12. Political and/or religious discussions will be penalized by an oral warning. 

Rules of Conduct Specific to the Classroom

  1. The student should be in class before it starts.
  2. Student should stand up for any teacher or member of the administration who enters the classroom.
  3. Student  should have their books, copybooks and other materials such as pencils, rulers, etc. with them.
  4. Students should sit in a proper and respectful way.
  5. Students are not allowed to talk in class without asking for permission. Irrelevant questions that distract the class are not permitted.
  6. Students are not allowed to leave class without permission and not allowed to leave the floor without the supervisor's permission.
  7. Eating and drinking are absolutely forbidden in class.
  8. Any disrespect to the teacher or the class being taught, such as the      purposeful show of boredom, will be reprimanded.
  9. Students will not be given permission to use the toilets within the first half hour after a break or within ten minutes before the bell rings.
  10. Students who wish to leave the classroom in between classes should ask permission from the incoming, rather than the outgoing, teacher.

Bullying, Plagiarism and Theft

Bullying, plagiarism and theft are major offenses and are handled accordingly. Any case recorded will be referred to the head of administration and may result in expulsion from the school.

Homework Policy

  1. Homework is graded and the grade counts as part of the final average in that subject.
  2. Students are expected to complete homework at home.
  3. Students must not copy homework from classmates.
  4. All homework should be neatly, clearly and properly presented.
  5. A student who continually fails to present their homework will be given      extra work to do, either at home, or after school hours and Saturdays. The grade of the extra work will be included as part of the final average.

Tests and Exams

  1. Student should arrive fully prepared for all exams and tests. Any distraction caused because of borrowing material will subject the student to possible expulsion from the test room.
  2. Students are not allowed to leave their seat or turn around as they sit for the exam.
  3. Submitting an empty answer sheet is considered a disobedience and a major offense that will result in a written warning.
  4. Any student who comes late to a test without a permission from the head of department will not be allowed to sit for test.
  5. Students are not allowed to go to the bathroom during a test.
  6. Any student who cheats on any test will be given a failing grade.
  7. Make-ups are not allowed for students absent from an exam without proper justification and will result in a failing grade.

Traveling

  1. Parents should inform the administration about their intention to travel at least 15 days ahead of time.
  2. The student is responsible for all work missed during the travel period.
  3. The student should sit for a make-up exam before he travels in the summer or he will be considered to have a grade of zero.
  4. Any student who has to travel though he has a summer school should sit for a make-up exam.

  1. The student should wear the school uniform in school campus and in all school exhibitions such as field trips and competitions.
  2. The school uniform has to be well pressed, well fitting, and should be in clean and presentable shape.
  3. Students are not allowed to wear the sports uniform unless they have sports.
  4. Students are not allowed to enter the lab without a lab coat.
  5. Wearing short skirts and tight clothing is not allowed in school.
  6. Hats are not allowed in school.

  1. The  uniform of the student should be always clean and tidy.
  2. The student should follow all personal hygiene tips and elementary students will be subjected to regular hygiene check-ups by the advisory teachers.
  3. The student should also keep his/her books and copybooks clean. Any student  with dirty or torn copybooks will be asked to rewrite all notes on a new copybook.

  1. Girls’hair should be kept tied and that of boys should be kept short and neat.
  2. The hair should be kept clean. Regular checkups for lice will be done for lower - grade students.
  3. The use of hair colorants is not allowed.
  4. Boys should keep their beards shaved.

  1. The use of cosmetics (makeup, nail polish etc) is not allowed in school.
  2. Wearing accessories is not allowed in school
  3. Wearing political badges and signs is forbidden in school.
