Our Preschool Department

  

The day in the preschool department begins at the main door — always with a smile, a personal greeting, and a song playing softly in the background. There’s a gentle hum of excitement as little hands wave, backpacks bounce, and children step into a space that feels like a second home.

Inside the classrooms, the day unfolds in the most natural way — through play, laughter, and endless curiosity. Some children are already deep in conversation, mixing colors to see what new shade appears. Others are building something magnificent out of blocks, debating whether it’s a rocket or a castle. Across the room, a small group listens to a story, wide-eyed and full of wonder, while music hums quietly in the background.

As the morning goes on, children move between spaces that spark imagination and discovery. In our shared game room, they explore dramatic play areas, build pretend shops and homes, or experiment at tables designed for hands-on learning and sensory exploration. Each space has a purpose — to invite movement, creativity, and collaboration. The atmosphere is lively and connected, filled with questions, laughter, and moments of focus that only children can create.

Our teachers move between it all — observing, listening, guiding when needed, and often just standing back to let the learning happen. Here, exploration matters more than perfection, and every question is an invitation to discover something new.

By the end of the day, the walls are full of fresh artwork, and the air is full of stories waiting to be told on the car ride home.
This is what a day in kindergarten feels like at Greenfield College — warm, alive, and full of wonder. Every morning begins with connection, and every afternoon ends with the joy of knowing we’ve learned something together.



The Heart of Our Program

At the heart of our kindergarten program is a simple belief: children learn best when they feel safe, loved, and inspired to explore. Every question, every conversation, every bit of pretend play is part of a much bigger journey — one that helps children understand themselves and the world around them.

Our approach is rooted in inquiry-based learning, where curiosity guides the way. We encourage children to ask, imagine, test, and share their ideas through meaningful experiences that connect to their everyday lives. Whether they’re counting, storytelling, building, or creating, they are developing essential skills for thinking, communicating, and caring.

We see each child as a whole person — full of potential, emotion, and creativity. Our role is to nurture that potential, giving them the tools and confidence to grow at their own pace while discovering the joy of learning.



The Nuts and Bolts

You might be saying, “That sounds great, but what does that look like in practice? How will I know my child is learning?” Those are excellent questions, especially in the early years.

Our preschool curriculum is developed across five transdisciplinary projects completed throughout the year. We mix direct instruction, center rotations, and small-group experiences. These projects help children make meaningful connections between what they see, touch, and imagine every day.

Parents are invited to join us for project celebrations throughout the year to see what we have accomplished together. Additionally, our classroom cameras provide a window into the day – allowing families to share in moments of discovery and joy as they happen.

  • We don’t do it alone. Parents are our partners in this journey, working with us to celebrate milestones, support curiosity, and shape a community where children thrive. Together, we build the foundation for a lifetime of wonder, empathy, and growth.
